Frequently asked
Insurance & Billing
Do you take insurance?
Yes. I accept these insurance plans through Headway, which handles billing on my behalf: Aetna; Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield New York (formerly Empire); Carelon Behavioral Health; Cigna; Curative; Highmark BlueCross BlueShield of Western New York; Highmark BlueShield of Northeastern New York; and Providence Health Plan. Coming soon (pending through Headway): Horizon Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Jersey; Oscar (Optum); Oxford (Optum); UnitedHealthcare (Optum); and UnitedHealthcare Medicare Advantage. Reach out and I'll help you check your coverage.
What does it cost if I pay out of pocket?
Self-pay sessions are booked through Headway, like insured sessions, and provided through my private practice, Root to Bloom Counseling LCSW, PLLC. They are $100 for individual therapy and $200 for couples therapy, paid by Visa, Mastercard, American Express, or Zelle. If you're not using insurance, you have the right to a Good Faith Estimate of expected costs. Just ask at any time.
Does insurance cover couples therapy?
Coverage for couples therapy varies by plan. Reach out and we can look at your options together, including self-pay.
The Therapy Process
What approaches do you use?
I draw on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and we'll shape the work around you in a collaborative, strengths-based way.
How long are sessions, and how often do we meet?
Sessions typically last about 50 minutes. Most clients start weekly, then adjust as things improve.
Is what I share confidential?
Yes. What you share in therapy is private and protected by law, with a few legal exceptions (such as risk of serious harm) that we'll review together in our first session.
Logistics
Do you offer in-person sessions?
My practice is online only. Sessions are held by secure video, and you must be physically located in New York State at the time of each session.
What do I need for a video session?
A phone, tablet, or computer with a camera, a stable internet connection, and a private space where you feel comfortable talking.
When are you available?
I'm available most weekday evenings, which makes it easier to fit therapy around work and family.
